Literature lovers are always keen to know what important things happened in the past on particular days of particular months. For them, we have started this new trend that each month we will publish an article with all the important literary dates. As February has already begun, we are publishing this article with the very important dates and their significance in the terms of the events. Here we go in February:
2nd February: On this day, James Joyce, the master of the stream of consciousness technique of writing, was born in the Republic of Ireland in the year 1882. Who does not know James Joyce? Yes, anyone who loves reading serious fiction must know about this great novelist. Some of his important works are Ulysses, A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, Finnegans Wake and Dubliners. He has inspired a number of literary personalities including Virginia Woolf.
7th February: Have you ever read Charles Dickens? If your answer is yes, you must know the date already. If your answer is no, you need to wake up from your fictitious slumber and start reading Charles Dickens. There are many novels by Dickens which still continue to inspire the readers as well as the authors. David Copperfield, Hard Times, Great Expectations and many others are his important and popular novels. On his birthday, you should read one of his best novels!
8th February: This is the date which is popular in the literary field as the birthday of one of the most popular contemporary authors in the USA, John Grisham. He was born on 8th February 1955 and he has written some of the most famous contemporary novels such as A Time to Kill and The Rainmaker.
14th February: On this day in the year 1989, the biggest of the mockery was made in the name of religion against the freedom of expression as the Iranian Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, issued a fatwa against Salman Rushdie. And to the extreme dismay of the world, the Iranian media openly supports the call to kill an author even now!
26th February: Victor Hugo, the author who full name is Victor Marie Hugo, was born in the year 1802 in France. Hugo is considered one of the best-known authors of France for his works like Les Misérables, The Hunchback of Notre-Dame, Ninety-Three and many many others!
So, these are the important dates that literature lovers must remember in the month of February. If you want to celebrate a particular day, you can arrange book club meetings, discussions based on the author of his or her books etc. There are many ways to remember the people who have given their lives to the development and popularity of literature.
